How Will Your Business Be Affected?
The CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme is an important, mandatory piece of Carbon savings law and is already in force. If your organisation has half-hourly metered electricity, you will need to be registered within the scheme. If your whole UK organisation – not just your site – spends around £500,000 on energy, you may be a Full Participant, required to meet extra obligations including buying Carbon Allowances.
Devised and overseen by the Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC), and administered by the Environment Agency, the CRC qualification period was completed in 2008. It is already too late to avoid being caught within the scheme. The first Compliance Year starts in April 2010. All main fuels will be covered by CRC, not just electricity.
In April 2011, all Full Participants will be required to buy allowances to cover their Carbon emissions. All other participants will need to submit annual returns.
Certain businesses may be able to outperform the majority by qualifying for the Early Action Metric. This required implementation of Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) technology or gaining the Carbon Trust Standard. Ask us for more details.
